The UK is a very large distance from a tectonic plate boundary. Tectonic plate boundaries are places where a significant amount of stress can cause strain to build up within the crust leading to earthquakes.
As the UK is a large distance from a plate boundary, the resultant stresses and accumulation of strain is much smaller which results in much smaller earthquakes and of lower frequency of occurrence.

∙ 9y agoAustralia does not have many major earthquakes, but it has dozen of minor earthquakes every year which are not felt by the average person because they occur so far underground. The reason so few noticeable earthquakes occur is that Australia does not sit on the edge of any tectonic plates.

Earthquakes in Australia are caused by the shifting of the tectonic plates beneath the earth's crust. There are no significant fault lines runing through Australia, but activity in the fault line that runs through New Zealand can cause stress on the plate beneath the Australian continent.

∙ 9y agoAustralia has a great many natural disasters, and the most common one, bushfires, have been known to kill hundreds of people. Cyclones have, in the past, been responsible for ndrds of deaths also, but improved emergency preparedness for cyclones has reduced the incidence of deaths. Tornadoes, surprisingly, have also been responsible for dozens of deaths in past decades, but not to the same extent as in the US. The other major natural disatser in Australia is floods, but they do not kill many Australians.
Australia does not suffer from devastating earthquakes or tsunamis, even though there do occur on a small scale. This is because Australia is not within the Pacific ring of fire. The ring of fire is where most of the world major tectonic plates touch and grind against each other causing earthquakes and tsunamis.
Australia has never been affected by a volcanic eruption. There are no active or dormant volcanoes on the Australian mainland.
