The pole alternately cool so they're called arctic.

The equator never cools, so its called tropical.

The area between (which get some cooling) is called temperate.

Because of changes in the earths structure, and the movement of the hydrosphere. Whenever tectonic plates shift, or differing water temperatures collide there are major changes in the weather as well.

Planet Earth's axis (the line through the planet from the North and South Poles) is at a slight angle, and as the planet revolves around the Sun, this tilt changes how directly sunlight hits the planet. Tropical regions near the Equator have very direct, consistent sunlight year round, temperate regions are tilted slightly towards or away from the Sun, resulting in seasons, and polar or arctic regions have indirect sunlight for most of the year. These differences change the temperature in those regions, creating a domino effect for weather, geography, wildlife, etc.
