There is no simple way to answer this question as this particular man is the only one who knows why he is doing this.
This is a very controlling/abusive situation and can become serious. It is important if you do not feel safe or fear for your safety to seek help with family, friends, local shelters, and the police. I realize you may not want to hurt this person directly or get them into "trouble" but your well being should come first.
