The formula of hydrazine is N2H4. It looks like this HH-N-N-HH The answer really is that, for a molecule that size, it is a very high boiling point. A molecule with a similar size and mass is ethane, which is a gas at room temperature. The reason it has such a high boiling and melting point is that when nitrogen and hydrogen bond, the nitrogen has a greater attraction to the electrons that they share, so the negatively charged electrons are closer to the nitrogen. This makes the nitrogen slightly negative, and the hydrogen slightly positive. When another hydrazine molecule is near, the negative Nitrogen on one molecule is attracted to the positive hydrogen on another molecule. This makes them harder to separate by boiling, and so it has a higher boiling point.

Helium has a low boiling point because there are no inter-particular forces to attract it to other helium atoms. It does not have enough electrons to have random dispersion forces as larger atoms do.

In summary, substances are liquid or solid at room temperature ie have a high boiling point, because there are forces between the atoms or particles. The forces can be:

  1. dipole-dipole interactions like hydrogen chloride
  2. random dipole interactions are typical of large molecules or atoms like Iodine, proteins, organic compounds
  3. hydrogen bonding between molecules. This is why the little molecule water is a liquid, alcohol, ethanol also has hydrogen bonding between molecules
  4. Then there are crystal lattices like ionic substances eg NaCl, table salt
  5. Metals that are held together by delocalised electrons and
  6. huge networks of atoms bonded to one another like diamond and silicon dioxide.
