White has been established as "purity" and is a standard for years....BUT do not let anyone change your mind...2010 and happiness is what its all about... The group of wedding planners I know say Black bridal dresses are a kiss of death to a marriage, it shows disrespect to marriage.
But really, it's up to the bride.

∙ 13y agoShe would do that to make an incredibly bold personal statement. Black is a stunning color on women who can wear it. Inevitably she is making a statement regarding her position on traditional taste and values; older women at the wedding might be shocked. If the dress design is ultra-traditional or retro, then black may come across as mocking, and that would be unfortunate. A well designed modern dress in black would be an utter knock-out. Perhaps a brilliant design could include a veil; I don't see a veil working well, though. If she is going to do this, she should be tough-skinned and ready to graciously answer what will surely be some critical opinions. Graciousness is the key; she has not invited people to her wedding in order to provoke and then insult them.

∙ 14y ago- Black is generally considered more for funerals than for a joyous occasion such as a wedding. However, modern times dictate fashion so if a bride wants to wear a nice satin strapless dress and pump it up with a colorful bouquet then it is up to her as to what makes her happy. There is no sinister reason for wearing a black wedding dress.

The mother of the bride goes to the church rehearsal where the wedding party practices what they should do and say and then there is generally a Wedding Rehearsal Dinner after which all members of the wedding party (including the parents of the bride and groom.) There is no dress rehearsal for most brides or wedding party, but the bride and her brides maids would have to go into the wedding shop where the wedding dress and brides maids dresses were purchased to be sure no extra alterations have to be made on any of the dress and the mother may attend this if she asks the bride (which is generally not a problem.)

The mother of the bride is suppose to proudly represent her daughter on her special wedding day. It should never be a problem for the mother of the bride to buy a dress suited for the wedding. Some wedding shops or rental wedding shops will rent out dresses for the mother of the bride which would cost less.

The color of dress that is acceptable for a wedding reception would all depend on the colors of the wedding. If the person is a member of the wedding party the bride may have choses a set color or dress. If the person is a guest they would not want to clash with the wedding party.
