For one thing, Poland is right in the middle of things, between Germany, Sweden, Russia, Austria, Hungary, and Turkey (which are all countries that have invaded Poland historically). For another, Poland is a Catholic country, but Russia is Orthodox and northern Germany and Sweden are Protestant--this has resulted in invasions, as well.

Also, Poland historically, is an area of conflict because of flat terrain and the lack of natural barriers on the North European Plain.

Last, Poland is prime real estate. It has fertile land for agriculture, good water and mineral sources, timber, etc., and a climate that is not *too* extreme. Basically, Poland has been very desirable on that basis as well.

If you mean medieval times, kings put wooden boarders around Poland which, as you know are easy to burn. King Kazimierz Wielki put a stop to that by replacing them with stone one's.If you mean WW2 then it was because Poland was weak then but they tried to beat the Nazi's by building big basements and speaking, learning , reading and living there so that they could do all of the above in Polish. Go and get a history book to get more info:)

I think the answer is yes, I am sure there are many examples but during the Munich Agreement Poland stepped in to demand large swathes of Czech territory (including the region of Teschen) which they received. Despite this not being a military invasion it severely disadvantaged Czechoslovakia when the Nazi armies invaded the following March.

As I say I am sure there are other examples.

Poland was invaded and divided at two major points in its history.

The division of Poland in 1795 between the Russian, Prussian, and Austrian Empires was as a result of Poland's increasing liberalization. General Kosciusko, a soldier and a powerful Polish Statesman, had fought in the American Revolution and began to promote more liberal ideas in Poland as a way to stop the current economic decline. Many Poles were interested in these reforms and began to enact them.

Russia, Prussia, and Austria were Empires ruled as Absolute Monarchies and thus the idea that such a liberal temperament could be tolerable in a country near their borders was undesirable. As a result they declared war on Poland which was in no position to take on any of those three empires, let alone all three at the same time. When Poland fell, each empire took pieces of the regime as booty and added it to their own.

In 1939, Hitler and Stalin divided Poland for numerous political reasons. Stalin wanted to increase Soviet territory as well as reclaim some of the territory lost due to the Treaty of Versailles in 1919. Thus, the Soviet Union took the Eastern part of the country (they invaded from the east only days after Nazi Germany invaded from the west). Hitler wanted to avoid a Nazi-Soviet War in 1939 and so was willing to not lay claim to the part of Poland that the Soviets occupied. As a result, he divided the country along a rough West/East boundary. Hitler then subdivided the Nazi-occupied region between territories he believed to be truly German territories (but under Polish occupation) and genuine Slavic regions. The German territories were directly annexed (in the same way that Austria and the Czech Republic were annexed) and the remaining Nazi-occupied territory became the Fascist Puppet State of Poland.

Why did both the Soviet Union invade Poland?

Poland has been invaded many many times, but I'm assuming you mean the WWII invasion. For Germany, it was just the next logical step of their European expansion plan. They'd actually already invaded and taken control of the Czech territory before they moved into Poland. For Russia, it was a good oppourtunity to cooperate with Germany and settle what would supposively become the new Russian-German border.
