I am not sure how to answer your question regarding "Middle Easterns" using boats from Canada. I am not an expert on Sufism and am not Muslim, but I have a passing familiarity with the Sufi Masjid in the area you are describing and I volunteered to work for the World Life Institute several years ago. The Sufi Masjid in Waterport, NY serves the unique and surprisingly diverse population of the Sufi community in the area. There are far fewer Sufi Masjids than Sunni and Shia Masjids in North America. The Sufi tradition is highly influenced by Hindu and Indian ideals of an ascetic existence.
