Africa is not a failure, but it is true that there is too much poverty and lack of education. This is because African tribes were nomades and when the other countries that are next to Africa defined the limits, they screwed up their system, changing places when the food has run out, so that took African people to poverty and hunger.
Africa became a failure when the occidentals took over (English, dutch, Germans, french, Portuguese, spanish). Africans countries where ethnics base boundaries, the occidentals established geographic boundaries and that created chaos. People of the same family and ethny where sudently belonging to different countries with different language, laws and policies, just because they were on the other side of a river or a hill or a valley.
The social system of the African is based on the familly, the clan and then the tribe. They work in small groups with their own particularities and dialect. The occidentals works on a global principle where there is no consideration for cultural and ethnic differences, and that created chaos.
It is the management system used in Africa since the occidentals that is the cause of failure for the africans. It is not a failure for the occidentals, it is a blessing for them, cause they are getting oil, gold, diamond, coffe, and other things for almost nothing, and weakening the African society by introducing consepts that are not in the African way of thinking and way of life, and therefore leading them to failure.
Sub saharan africans don't have the ability to create and maintain a functioning modern society.
In order to understand why Africa is so poor today, one must know it was King Leopold the 2nd of Belgium who played one of the largest roles in initiating the colonization of Africa. He began the exploitation of the rubber and ivory reserves in the Congo while suppressing the native Congolese population with fear and brutality. Here is a link with a very detailed set of events before and during his conquest of the Central African Country as well as the very important Conference of Brussels. http://www.moreorless.au.com/killers/leopold.html
Also, Africa had very large complex society that was perfectly adapted to living in the tropical highland regions in the middle of the Continent. It had an immensely complex economic system which traded goods across the expanse of Africa and into India and the Middle East. This was all destroyed with the intervention of European explorers and colonization which transformed a large part of Africa into the poor, disease ridden, war torn region it is today. Get your heads out of your asses and realize it is largely the fault of western civilization that Africa exists the way it does today. http://wysinger.homestead.com/africanhistory.html
The failure and success of the African Union is what defines it today. One of the successes is being able to bring together African countries in unity. The main failure is lack of proper systems that address human injustices in African countries.
