AnswerCommunism, in its purest form (the one described originally by Karl Marx, and has never been practiced) is a classless, stateless society, a utopia where everyone has everything they need. This society is impossible to build right away, so countries instead use a sort of transitional government called socialism. Communism has only been practiced for about 90 years so of course no one has reached the pure form utopia. Answer (from a Theist)Although many admirable elements may be contained in forms of Socialism and Communism, those forms of Socialism and Communism which have proscribed, inhibited, or discouraged the free exercise of religion among its subject peoples can in no sense be described as good by a believer in God.

Although Marxism in particular is anti-religion, communism in general does not in any way prohibit religion. The Christian Apostles practiced communism, for instance. "All the believers were one in heart and mind. No one claimed that any of their possessions was their own, but they shared everything they had. ... For from time to time those who owned land or houses sold them, brought the money from the sales and put it at the apostles' feet, and it was distributed to anyone who had need." This arrangement is also practiced among monks of Christianity, Taoism, Jainism, Hinduism and Buddhism, by some Pilgrim colonies, etc.

Answer (from a Social Democrat)"To each, according to their need. From each, according to their ability." The idea behind communism is a classless society, where all men and women are equal. It is a good goal for society - but its not something that can be achieved overnight. Marx stated that societies evolve, just like organisms. So you start as a tribe, move towards an aristocracy, then a capitalist democracy, then socialism, then communism. The goal is a 'Dictatorship of the Proletariat (the workers.)' So in essence, Marxist-Leninism isn't really Marxism, because Lenin wanted revolution to achieve these goals. Marx said it will happen gradually and naturally. Answer (from Comrade Kowal, a Religiously-Motivated Communist)The wish for the general well-being/betterment of another, often called "Love" in English, is central to many religions of all different types of backgrounds. The Abrahamic God of Judaism, Christianity, and Islam says to "love" thy neighbor. Love itself is the one Religious Doctrine Unifying all faiths. so why not love thy neighbor? why not make sure that his life is as good, if not better than yours? The Dalai Lama once said, and i paraphrase for lack of a complete quote, " Why risk 100 dollars for a gain of 1 dollar, when you could much more easily risk 1 dollar for the gain of 100?" and in context, regarding the treatment of sentient beings (including humans) he means "why would you risk the betterment of 100 for your betterment, when it would benefit you more to risk your betterment for the betterment of 100?" now, if we apply this, everyone working to better everyone else, you would have a support group of 6-7 billion people, rather than a capitalist support group of you, and perhaps your close business associates. religion has implanted communism into the backs of your heads, and yet nobody realizes it. But once you do, the world will be at peace.

One of the main goals of socialism (in both political and economic theory) is to create a society which allows for each individual to pursue his or her interests and realize self-actualization. This outcome is predicated upon the view that individuals should be rewarded in proportion to their contribution to society, and that genuine freedom can only exist if every individual has equal access to the means of sustenance.

Today, socialism is often confused with "Social democracy", which unlike socialism, is not an alternative economic system to capitalism. Social democracy is a political philosophy that supports an ethical doctrine that everyone should be taken care off (a sense of communal responsibility), and that there should NOT be a wide gap between individual's wealth. That is, social democracy holds that those with more should help support those with less (for whatever reason), and that no individual should have/own so much as to be wildly richer than others. Social democracy holds that if this gap (between the least-haves, and the most-haves) is too great, it leads to social injustice and social unrest.

So, under a practical social democratic policies such as the forms of capitalism that exist in the Nordic countries, people can count on having their basic needs met, either through their own efforts or with help from society. That is, everyone has a minimum standard of living, which society as a whole considers reasonable. Most current social democratic systems include free basic healthcare, a basic pension/retirement system and old-age assistance, free or subsidized education (usually up and through post-secondary trade school or university), generous unemployment and job retraining support, and modest welfare and disability support. Highly progressive tax structures are used to prevent (or at least moderate) very wide income gaps in society.

Social democratic political systems tend to be designed to favor labor over capital - meaning that workers (in the form of unions or just straight worker's voting) generally have greater power in the government that owners of capital (i.e business owners). This design tends to offset some of the advantages that money can bring in a political system. Thus, you have a political system which the majority of citizens generally feel is responsive to their needs, rather than solely to an elite.

Communism is actually more stable than Capitalism ever could be. The assets of the entire country are divided up among all citizens which also means less poverty. There is however the opportunity cost of making either more weapons and security or making more food and this has always been taken advantage of. Take the USSR for example: Stalin, the man who took total and complete control of the government, chose to make more military during the Cold War and in effect the people in Russia were starving.

Stalin was a good example of communism gone wrong. He was a total A-hole from the start only caring about his military machines then his own children.

There is no *right* or *wrong* system as it's the people in charge that count. Not if we are *communist* or *Socialist* because in either scenario if a person cares more about greed then encouraging a good economy with *gasp* jobs then countries either have two things happen.

Either an invasion from illegal immigrants taking over the jobs the citizens refuse to do or a war happens though however during a war often times new discoveries are made in the medical field and peace time technology gets a major facelift when war is over.
There are a number of good things about communism. The common ones include equal distribution of wealth and resources which means that social classes do not exist.

Yes, it could be. In practice it seldom is.

If you are a selfish person who only wishes for yourself to succeed (AKA getting rich), then you won't like communism but if you are a kind person who values equality and wishes there are no beggars on the streets or people living in extreme poverty, then you MIGHT like Communism. Communism is a system of governance where there are no economic classes or no "low income families" or "high income families". It is a system where money and private ownership is abolished, everything belongs to the people, all of them and not just the richest 5% of the population who own 80% of the capital. Now, if you drive a Porsche and live in a great seaside house, then you probably won't be too happy donating you car or house for scrap metal to be made into standard houses for the whole country. Greed is natural. If you are Christian then it is because Adam and Eve ate the fruits of sin and if you are not then for you it is because it is human instinct to survive. Either way, Communism will not work because we will all take more than we need for we are greedy. In a true Communist country, there's no such thing as wages, taxes, etc, you work for the country and you receive free things required by you. In this type of society, only human beings who are not selfish and only take what they need will make it work. Obviously, humans are not like that. 30 years ago, in China, the hospitals gave out free medication and many people went to trick the hospital into giving them traditional medicine for their supposedly sick son who has a "cold". In truth, the medicine was taken back home and boiled with water to make soup. You see, that is why no country can ever make Communism work. The word "Communism" has an overall positive affect in poor countries, so how do you seize power easily? You brand yourself with the word "Communism" and do things that has to be the cruelest and most immoral things in the world, in the name of "Communism". The USA is not too happy with anybody taking power in other countries besides their "type" (rich and greedy executives) so they brand everyone else other than capitalism as "bad". North Korea is giving them this opportunity as they are in truth, a dictatorship but branded themselves with "Communism". This makes Communism an easy target for Western Propaganda. So now every time you hear the word "Communism" you think executions and mass murders even though that is not the case but as the media has already done a great job at brain washing you, you automatically think that. Communism WILL be good if executed truthfully but no country has any means to do that.
