For anyone to answer the question, "Why is God in heaven". There are two things that must be defined, and they, (1) Who is God?, and (2) Where is heaven?.
Based on John 4v24, God is a spirit. and (2) heaven is not a physical place it is 'divine, and it is often alluded to as 'above', the mount, the 'kingdom of God", a 'temple', but the most telling is 'the crown', and from that crown comes infinite 'wisdom, knowledge and understanding, by which the cleansed "Spirit and Soul" ascends to higher consciousness. So, in Psalms, the author refer to heaven as an illustration for 'heights'. But all spiritual things are manifested within upon the cleansing.

God is in heaven because, by definition, Heaven is where God dwells. It's somewhat the same as the definition of "Home". Home is where YOU live. to everyone else who doesn't live there it's not home. You living there makes it, by definition, "home". The ambiguity of the term home results from there being many people and thus many homes. Since there is but one God, Our Father, our Heavenly Father. he has but one "home" and thus the term "heaven" is unique to His dwelling place.
