Because she was a person who became blind and deaf at a young age and didn't know how to speak until she was in her teens (I think) . She went to college and succeeded as the first deaf blind person ever to graduate, Born in 1880, she lived until 1968. She starred in films and even wrote braille books.

She overcame the struggles with being blind and deaf, and that took courage. She publicly spoke of her experiences, hoping to motivate others. She was one of the 20th century's leading humanitarians, and founder of UCLA. (I don't know what that is, though.)
