Jesus is center to all branches of Christianity, because there was originally only one branch. Due to the fact that the Roman Catholic church was becoming legalsistic, and Luther also believed that it's hierarchy was unBiblical, the protestant church branched off, and followed more of Luther's beliefs, versus the beliefs of the Roman Catholic church. Be aware though, that by following Luther's beliefs, I am not saying that they strayed from The Bible, just re-interpreted it, and interpreted it differently.
