The Bible is our owners manuel. It instructs us how to live and it also explains about God Almighty and Jesus our savior. The book of Proverbs was written by King Solomon, son of King David. Solomon became King and asked that God grant him wisdom. Some of the wisdom that he received from the Lord was written down and put into the bible. These are all good things to learn and live by. Since the Bible is God's holy word we are to read it and learn how God would have us live. The proverbs are an excellent source or everyday wisdom for us even today.

Answer2: The Bible book of Proverbs is an excellent source of wise sayings. The proverbs recorded in it are "for one to know wisdom and discipline, . . . to receive the discipline that gives insight, righteousness and judgment and uprightness." (Proverbs 1:1-3) We are wise to 'bring our ear' to them. Proverbs chapter 15 gives sound guidance on managing anger, using the tongue, and dispensing knowledge.

Much of the first half of the Book of Proverbs is devoted to the sayings of Wisdom.

At 1:20ff: 20Wisdom crieth without; she uttereth her voice in the streets; 21She crieth in the chief places of the concourse, in the openings of the gates; in the city she uttereth the words, saying, 22How long, ye simple ones, will ye love simplicity? and the scorners delight in their scorning, and the fools hate knowledge? 23Turn you at my reproof: behold, I will pour out my spirit unto you. I will make known my words unto you.

According to Proverbs 8:22-36, Wisdom stood at God's side and participated in the creation of the world, and is God's intermediary with humans. An interesting mental picture is painted at 9:1ff: 1Wisdom hath builded her house, she hath hewn out her seven pillars: 2She hath killed her beasts; she hath mingled her wine; she hath also furnished her table. 3She hath sent forth her maidens: she crieth upon the highest places of the city. 4Whoso is simple, let him turn in hither; as for him that wanteth understanding, she saith to him, 5Come, eat of my bread, and drink of the wine which I have mingled.

The figure of Wisdom certainly was a female, and Helmer Ringgren, whose seminal book Word and Wisdom (1947) is widely cited in this field, says that Wisdom was not an abstraction but 'a concrete being, self-existent beside God'. One hypothesis says that Wisdom may have been pushed into the spotlight by a priestly establishment that wanted to counter a fascination for the goddess Asherah. English translations frequently obscure or minimise references to Wisdom by writing the word uncapitalised (wisdom), when the context is that of a spiritual being.

Further chapters of Proverbs were written later, and deal with philosophical wisdom, thus obscuring the role of Wisdom.

The Old Testament books are grouped into three major categories... Historical, Poetical, and Prophetical. Proverbs is classified as "poetical" almost by default, since it doesn't talk about history and it isn't about or by a prophet.

The basic layout is the historical books more or less in order, then the poetical books, followed by the prophets, more or less in order.

It is not just a collection of wise sayings. It is the inspired Word of God which passes on a core of knowledge and experience we all must have to live successfully. This is not just for the 'old days' but for all days as Human Nature, like God's Nature does not change. Proverbs speaks to all people - of modern problems as much as the old ones. The only thing that has changed is the landscape and the calendar.

Proverbs was canonized as one of the Hebrew Bible books by the Men of the Great Assembly in 340 BCE. They recognized its being a Divinely-inspired book. Jeremiah, who wrote the Book of Kings, mentions King Solomon's proverbs in a laudatory context (1 Kings 5:12), as does the Talmud (Eiruvin 21b).See also the Related Link.
