Saint Rose of Lima was a very kind person indeed. Her faith in God came at a very young age, and she accepted everything she had to do. She worked hard at her faith, did everything she had to do and helped others. When she was an infant her face was transformed by a mystical rose. When she was 14 she took the name Rose as her Comfirmation name and was called Rose.
St.Rose of Lima was canonized because of her goodness. She was very supportive of her family as a young girl. She always gave her full heart to God in any way that she could.

Rose is known for being the first American born saint. She is also remembered for the severe penances and deprivations she subject herself to, starting when she was still a young girl. She was born a beautiful child but was so worried about her beauty being a distraction that she rubbed her face with lye and chili powder to cause her to be less attractive. When she was admitted to Dominican Order as a tertiary for eleven years she continued this self-martyrdom without relaxation and died of her deprivations at the young age of 31.

St. Rose of Lima is particularly honoured as she is the first person born in the Western Hemisphere to be canonized by the Catholic Church. (She was from Lima in Peru).

She was determined to become a nun, and took her vows of perpetual chastity against the will of her parents. She was extremely Ascetic in her lifestyle, and was a reknown mystic in her lifetime. She was consistently persecuted by those around her who saw her as a bit of a nut case. She eventually died, in sanctity.

She is particularly honoured because of her association with South American (Peru in particular).
Rose was born to Spanish immigrants to the New World (Lima, Peru). She was a beautiful girl and a devoted daughter and was so devoted to her vow of chastity that she used pepper and lye to ruin her complexion so she would not be attractive. She lived and meditated in a garden shack behind her parent's home, raising vegetables and making embroidered items to sell to support her family and help the other poor.

She became a Dominican tertiary in 1606 and was a mystic and visonary. She was gifted with the invisible stigmata (wounds of Christ that could not be seen but caused great pain). Rose suffered from assorted physical and mental ailments. She was the first saint born in the Americas and was the founder of social work in Peru.
