There are many reasons.
1) The obvious, your hair will grow too long and you won't be able to do anything with it and eventually, control it. Of course, people don't cut their hair and it looks cool, but they also don't wash it, so they can keep it stiff.
2) Although shampoo can treat this to a certain extent, haircuts keeps your hair clean as it disposes of older and smellier hairs, to let cleaner ones grow, so it keeps you hair nice.
3) It is always nice to have a new trim, so why not?!
