There is a good chance your Power Steering fluid is low. Check the fluid level. If it is low, then add some fluid. If that is not the case then you might possible just have an air bubble that will work itself out shortly. Let me know how you come out!
Worn steering rack? Bad power steering pump? Low P.S. fluid? Worn steering components? Low tire pressure?
Tire out of balance or bent wheel.
When the car is driven at low speed, the power steering gives full assist so the driver can turn the steering wheel easily. Parking or turning tight corners can be done with little effort. As vehicle speed increases, the mount of power steering assist is reduced and the steering wheel becomes harder to turn. This gives the driver more feedback about road conditions through the steering wheel and better vehicle control. If an emergency arises and the driver needs to turn the steering wheel quickly, the full power assist is provided almost immediately after the wheel is turned only a few degrees.
The 4wd light should go out, also you'll notice easier steering and smoother control while driving, while in 4wd the front tires will be difficult to steer, or will seem to resist steering at low speed or a sharp turn.
I believe the dimmer switch is in the steering wheel column.
It could be a shifted belt in one of the tires.
it sounds to be as if your power steering pump is out or low on fluid.
Most power steering noise is caused by low fluid level. Check level in reservior. Other check is make sure belt is tight.
A few things could cause this. Low power steering fluid, too slow engine speed (low RPMs), faulty power steering pump or broken power steering pump belt, binding or poorly lubricated steering linkages, faulty steering gear, etc.
Unbalanced wheels or a bent track rod
Could be a tired power steering pump or simply low on p/s fluid.
