Do you have to disassemble the entire engine shroud and air intake to get to the alternator of a 1998 GMC Sonoma?
Only if it is in the way. Usually the induction tube has to be removed- this is a no-brainer. You can work around the shroud. Assuming this Sonoma has the 2.2 L engine. If your Sonoma has the 4.3 engine, the alternator is in the clear. I had to remove the air induction tube, and lower plenum, …as well as the upper half of the engine fan shroud. Removing the battery helps a lot if you have big arms. Be sure to follow directions to keep from faulting out your control chip. (MORE)
the water pump on the 4.3L vortec is easy. there are four bolt holding. the water pump in place. these bolt hold your fan clutch also. the water pump and fan system.are built as one. remove these bolts and you are ready to change your water pump.
Answer . it is under the black plastic upper intake, that the throttle body bolts to
2001 gmc sonoma it will not start you can start it by poppin the clutch which would indicate to you that the starter is ok you have replaced the starter relay switch and the clutch switch any ideas?
Answer . \nHow do you figure the starter is okay just by popping the clutch? Popping the clutch uses the driveline to turn the motor over. The starter is not involved at all.
I brought my Sonoma in for this this morning and my quote was $1900 for the whole deal.. $1900 was my quote for my clutch, this is from a Chevy dealer service deaprtment. I have not seen the breakdown of parts and labor.
your resevour should be on the drivers side under the hood. the valve to release presure is under the truck on the driverside as well. the process is messy and you will need 2 people but you just fill your resevour with dot 3 brake fluid and pump the clutch about 7 or 8 times and hold the clutch in …while you release the presure. then release the clutch refill and repeat. i went through about 2 1/2 big bottles of brake fluid and about 3hrs of work before i got all the air out. good luck. "Caliper anchor bolts" hold the brake caliper on, they require a 3/8" Allen wrench to remove.
Answer . It depends on how high it is. My sonoma stays at 80 when cold and goes down about 10 minutes after its warm, and flucuates as i give more and less throttle. If it goes about 80 I would take it to a tech and not drive it until it is resolved.
Auto Zone or any parts store that loans tools should have a fan clutch tool. it holds the pulley while you loosen the fan clutch nut
Answer . The engine type will vary from truck sonoma to sonoma, some may have a 1.9L, 2.0L, 2.2L, or 2.5L I4, or 2.8L, 4.3L, 4.3L Vortec V6.
Answer . This is a hydraulic clutch, there is not adjustment. An observed low pedal is caused by: 1) bad master or 2) bad slave 3) air in fluid - fill and bleed 4) Driver error. Replace all if you want it fixed. An observed high pedal is caused by 1) Driver error. 2) Worn clutc…h disc/pressure plate. Inability to make the clutch release is caused by: 1) Air in the system, needs to be filled, bled, and filled. 2) Faulty Master or slave cyliner, replace both and bleed. 3) Fused clutch. Flat tow or wheel lift tow the truck to a fairly high speed (above 40 MPH) in neutral, then, while still moving, shift into high forward gear and drop the clutch like it's on fire. Truck now works OK, but expect disc failure and replacement within 12 months. (MORE)
the flasher is located under the back center of the dash you need to remove the lower center section and the two cover to get at it but it is there.

It is important for a car owner to know the location of all the carparts. The fuel tank pressure sensor for a 1998 GMC Sonoma islocated in the fuel pump assembly.?æ
There are four O2 sensors on that vehicle assuming you have a 4.3L engine. The 2.2L engine I believe has three. They are accessible underneath the vehicle and are threaded into the exhaust system. One is located on each end of the cat converter and the other ones are directly behind each bank of cyl…inders on the exhaust pipe. Each has a four wire harness attached that can be unplugged.. I can't tell you where it is SPECIFICALLY on your vehicle, but all Oxygen sensors are on the exhaust, and most are as close to the heads as possible, usually just after the exhaust manifold, screwed into the headpipe. The unlock codes for GM vehicles can be set by the owner so if it is a used stereo there is no way to answer this question. Sometimes, however the owner will write their code in the owner manual on the page where the procedure is located.
\nI drive a 2000 gmc sonoma. My jack is behind the passenger seat in a built in box. Hope this helps.
go get a Chilton or Haynes at your local Auto Parts Place their usually around $20

first of all you'll need 2 people a crow bar, rachet set and a wrench. well you'll need to take a crow bar and put it in between the tensor pulley to get the pressure off the belt and take that off, then just take the 3 or so bolts and wires off the back and replace with a new one. just make sure to …get your wires back where and how they were. then to get the belt back on your going to have to have your other person put the belt on while you are getting the tensor and its ussually a tuff one. in the fuse box under the hood, driver's side. I have a 1996 GMC Sonoma 2.2 I have about the same question? If anyone can answer for me? Does the starter relay cause the ignition switch to have a delay when starting? Seems I have a 1-2 sec.delay when turning the ignition key seems not right. Is this… normal? Also? I have a brand new starter & Battery installed 3 months ago.Now it won't hit a lick.If I turn the ignition key over a few 20 times maybe it will startup. Could it be a starter relay? (MORE)

IT IS LOCATED ON THE FUEL PUMP ASSEMBLY. It is the smaller electrical connector on top of the fuel tank
It is possible the thermostat has stuck in the open position therefor not letting the engine heat up. It could also be the heater core or possibly the hoses to the heater core are disconnected.
Depends on the year for '98-'99 it is under the hood, car's right side over the coolant overflow tank.
Well, first of all, if by clutch actuator, you mean the device that pushes on the clutch plates to engage and disengage the clutch, you are going to have to separate the motor from the transmission. Then you will see where the hydraulic lines come into transmission through the bell housing. At that …point you will need to disconnect the lines and pull off the actuator, then replace it with a new one. You will also need to bleed the lines- same concept as bleeding brake lines. make sure that there is enough fluid in the reservoir. This is allot of work, so unless your either very ambitious, or a mechanical minded person, its probably best done by a professional. In order to separate the transmission from the motor, you need to remove the rear drive shaft, and the transmission mounts. its alot of work to tackle, especially if you don't have adequate tools. Hope this helps, Drew PS if this is not what you meant post it and i will receive a email (MORE)
Assuming you have the 4.3L engine, it is located under the upper intake manifold and is attached to the bank of injecter poppets aka the "spider".
I just went through this , forget it ! get the part from a junkie and have your mechanic replace it , not worth the trouble
on my 2001 2.2 I removed the left inner fender and tire , it is in all that mess on the left side of engine, I think it was bolter to one of the lower intake botls.
The starter on a 1998 GMC Sonoma is replaced by disconnecting thebattery, removing the outer cover, and unbolting it from theengine. The wiring harness can then be disconnected, the starterremoved, and a new one put in place.
Check the following................ 1. Bad blower motor. 2. Damage wiring. 3. Bad ground. 4. Shorted a/c clutch coil.
On the 2.2L motor, use a 3/8" ratchet and insert it into the tensioner pulley socket (located behind the fan, on the lower left side of the motor). Rotate the pulley counterclockwise (left) as far as it will go. This will free up enough slack to pull the old belt off. Installation is the same. There… should even be a routing diagram under the hood to help figure out where the belt goes. I've found it easiest to run the belt on the pulleys that can be reached from above, then crawl underneath and finish sliding the belt on the very bottom. Hope this helps.. I have no experience with the 4.3L motor, but it should be the same process. Just find the tensioner pulley and start from there. (MORE)
The 1998 GMC Sonoma was built in two engine offerings. The 4.3L V6has three oxygen sensors; two upstream and one downstream. Upstreamare part of the exhaust assembly before the catalytic converter.
The biggest tire size you can put on a GMC snoma or s-10 2wheel drive or 4 wheel drive is p235R15 in front and 31x10.5R15 in back. with out lift. The second problem is the 4.3 liter v6 will not have enough power after 33s.Third the speedometer is computer controlled and 31s will be fine any bigger …and you will might have problems. On the zr2 models you have larger wheel clearance and a poise rear end. The forth problem is you might have to extend the brake lines. The fifth problem is the tire it self on a 15 inch wheel any 15 inch diameter size. it does not mater how wide the tire is but you might wont to check wheel well clearance. and enjoy I my self have a 2wd s-10 and 31s in back I do not nead any thing else I've never got stock and I have gong places where 4wd would not have gong. remember this the s-10 does not weight a lot and you will not sink as much as a full size truck. Was the volt gauge working? If it showed no response when driving then the charge/ign fuse could be blown and you were running off battery power till it ran down.
I had the same issue about two weeks ago. Turns out the fuel return was the problem.
The GMC Sonoma is not very fuel efficient. It gets 19 miler per gallon city and 25 miles per gallon highway, for a combined score of 22 miles per gallon. This is not very high compared to many newer vehicles. The above answer may be true when you are comparing the Sonoma to cars but within the tru…ck category where it competes this is good fuel mileage for a truck. (MORE)

Can mean a few things. Low hydraulic fluid( brake fluid) in clutch master cylinder, worn clutch disc, needs bleed, slave cylinder slowly losing seal, seals in master cylinder, linkage problem. It could go forever but it is probably just the clutch disk material. To sum it up it means take it to the …shop because if you don't know what it could be you most likely don't know how to fix it and it will only get worse to the point where it will not move (MORE)
It is a big job. You must drop the transmission. Then you slide theslave valve off the transmission input shaft. While you are therespend the money and go ahead and replace the clutch if it is reallyold.
same as bleeding the air in the clutch line for any other car -stab the air.
There's no fuel cut off switch its not like the Ford products- GM/Chevrolet's don't have it -Its the engine oil pressure sending unit that will cut off the fuel in the event of an accident
