For the most part racism with regards to laws, policies and practices of society have laws specifically designed to combat racism. This is certainly true in the United States. Racism polarizes society and inhibits the contributions of minority groups as they do not have the same access to art, media, government, and other areas of society. For the most part the items just described have been addressed and racism in my opinion is not a major stumbling block in Western nations such as the USA. The fact that over the past two Presidential administrations the USA has had Afro-American Secretaries of State, an Afro-American President, an Afro-American Attorney General says allot. We can recall that former US President Bush had Colin Powell as Secretary of State, Condelisa Rice as Secretary of State, are situations that are not found in even progressive Western nations.

I'll give one example of what I mean. To my knowledge no Irish background person has ever been the PM of the UK. If I am wrong please correct me.

Racism is one of the most destructive human elements that has existed for thousands of years. It has caused the deaths of millions of people and sadly, while racism should be banned, so far the world has been unable to do it.
