Are the engine temperature and oil pressure gauges linked?

As the temperature goes up the oil pressure goes down because the oil thins out. It is possible that the increasing temperature which causes the 'temp' light to come on can thin the oil enough to cause the 'oil' light to come on also.

Why would the oil pressure gauge on a 2005 Nissan Xterra drop at idle after it's warmed up?

oil pressure normally will go up and down with rms for the most part. when the motor is cold there is more oil pressure as the oil and motor get warmed up the oil thins out and the pressure goes down.

On your 99 dodge Dakota the oil pressure goes up when you put on gas and goes down when you let off gas what causes this?

oil pressure is directly related to engine rpm. more rpm = more oil pressure. the oil pump is driven off of the camshaft or distributor.

Why does the oil pressure bleed down overnight on your 1988 Corvette?

I may not be understanding your question. Of course the oil pressure goes to 0 when you shut the engine off, as the oil pump is no longer runnning. Start the engine and the pump brings the pressure back up. I don't know what you mean by, "bleed down".

2003 Chevy Suburban oil pressure gage fluctuates?

It is mechanical unit and varies with engine speed and temperature. what is the right pressure? Who knows? Typically engine life is more a function of oil volume rather than pressure, but oil volume is difficult to measure. The oil pressure on these trucks goes up and down as you drive. At idle it can get frighteningly low after the engine has some miles on it. I use a quart of Lucas Oil Stabilizer to replace one quart of oil at oil change. This seems to help all the way around. My 98 has 275,000 miles.

What is the function of the oil gauge in a car?

The oil gauge shows the oil's temperature. The oil pressure gauge monitors the oil pressure for your viewing pleasure.

Why is the oil pressure up and down in a dodge?
