Anwar Sadat (Muhammad Anwar El Sadat) was born December twenty-fifth, nineteen eighteen in Tala District, Egypt. Muhammad Anwar El Sadat is, and was, best known as the president of Egypt from October fifteenth, nineteen seventy to October sixth, nineteen eighty one. Anwar Sadat was born to a poor family and was one of thirteen siblings, which included both brothers and sisters. His father was Egyptian and his mother was Sudanese. His early childhood was under the care of his grandmother. during Anwar Sadat's childhood he looked up to four people who influenced his life. The first was Zahran, the hero of Denshway, who resisted the British in a farmer uprising. The second was Kemal Ataturk (Mustafa Kemal) who was the founder and first president of modern-day Turkey. The third was Mahatma Gandhi because of Gandhi's strong beliefs of non-violence. The fourth, during the time Egypt was under the occupation of the United Kingdom, was Hitler's Nazi army because of their quick ability to become a strategic threat to Britain. Anwar Sadat graduated from the Royal Military Academy in Cairo in nineteen thirty eight and was appointed in the Signal Corps. There, he met Gamal Abdel Nasser. They formed a secret group Free Officer's Movement. On July twenty third, nineteen fifty two, the group overthrew King Farouk. It was Anwar Sadat's assigned job to announce the defeat of King Farouk to the Egyptian people over radio networks. While Gamal Abdel Nasser was in presidency, Anwar Sadat was appointed "Minister Of State" in nineteen fifty four. In nineteen fifty nine, he got the position of "Secretary To The National Union". He was the president of the National Assembly from nineteen sixty to nineteen sixty eight and then vice president and member of the presidential council in nineteen sixty four. He was president of the council again in December nineteen sixty nine. After Gamal Abdel Nasser's death in nineteen seventy, Anwar Sadat took his place as the third president of Egypt on October fourteenth nineteen seventy. During Anwar Sadat's presidency (which lasted eleven years*) he made a peace treaty with Israel because he needed borders to be safe, he felt he needed to reclaim the land Israelis lost in the nineteen sixty seven and nineteen seventy three wars, and Anwar Sadat seems to have realized that Israel are too strong to be wiped out and in order for them to co-exist it was needed for them to make peace, and the final reason is that he felt the need to open up and make Egypt familiar with the rest of the world.

Why did Anwar Sadat make peace with Israel?
i) There were four main reasons as to why Sadat made peace with Israel. One of the main reasons that peace was essential to Egypt was that safe borders should be established. This was crucial because in the 1973 war Israeli tanks made their way across the Suez Canal and onto Egyptian land at which point they had to be told to stop advancing. The fact that Israeli tanks had, relatively easily made it across the border made it clear that safe borders and the buffer of the Sinai needed to be established. The second reason is that Sadat felt that he needed to reclaim the land that had been lost to the Israelis in the 1967 and 1973 wars. He knew that in order to regain that land he would have to make peace because he would not be able to get it by force. The next point is that by this point Sadat seems to have realised that Israel are too strong to be wiped out and in order for them to co-exist it was essential for them to make peace. The final reason is that he felt the need to open up and familiarise Egypt with the rest of the world. The fact that he agreed to go to negotiations with Israel would have boosted his popularity with the west and possibly thereby preventing possible future disputes. On top of this, it had been under Carter's personal invite that Sadat had been asked to Camp David this shows that Carter was putting a large amount of pressure on Sadat to reach an agreement with Israel.
