As with most people, Augustus was complex. He was an able administrator, but he was also capable of duplicitous behavior. He appears to have justified questionable acts by believing what he did was good for Rome.

∙ 12y agoYes, he was the first and in many opinions, the best emperor. Although he was ruthless on his way up, when he attained the supreme power he firmly established a new government, peace and prosperity for his empire and reorganized the city of Rome with the public good in mind.
