hey,
the reason why Franz Ferdinand was assassinated is because Gavrilo Princip was a member of the secret society called the Black Hand who were a pan-slavism nationalist movement with the intention of uniting all of the territories containing south slav populations annexed by Austria-Hungary. So, basically, Austria-Hungary took over some territories (in this case Bosnia and Herzegovina) and the serbs were, of course, kinda pissed at this so, in the name of uniting all Slavic people, the Black Hand decided to take down the heir to the thrown of Austria Hungary who, unfortunately, happened to Franz Ferdinand.
Essentially, it was Franz Ferdinand and his wife Sophie's deaths that started WWI cause then Austria-Hungary was eager to blame the Serbian government (when it was actually a free thinking, rogue nationalist group who had nothing to do with the government). So DErbia called on their ally Russia who couldn't sit by and watch this go on and bang: WWI started.
im currently doing an assignment on this whole thing so yeah, sorry about the mass of info.

Presumably, this question is asking about Archduke Franz Ferdinand, heir to the throne of the Empire of Austria-Hungary, who was assassinated in 1914.He was assassinated by a Serbian nationalist, Gavrilo Princip, who was essentially hoping to provoke strife in the Empire and enable the Serbs in the Empire to secede to Serbia. This is a simplification, and in any case the topic is debated. However, this is the essential element of the most widely held view of whyArchduke Franz was assassinated. This assassination led directly to the beginning of the First World War.
