He was an advanced composer and leader of a Big band jazz Band and this not being the only thing he played an important part in the military. If he wasn't the only one there were few who overcame the challenge of these two things.

he became famous after becoming popular with the youth music culture of his time by re writing the way the instruments should be brought into the compositions which he had wrote which was a variation to the most popular bands of the time, He then entered the 2nd world war as an a troop entertainer where he gained his fame

Correction:His fame came well before WWII in America; in fact, by the end of 1939 he was the country's most popular musician. He brought new and different arranging styles to popular music, both through the unmistakable blend of 3 (or 4) saxophones with a Clarinet doubling on melody, and up-tempo arrangements that emphasized precision playing.

Many of his arrangement were intended to encourage dancing, with slow and romantic tunes as well as swing numbers. He also tried to stay a bit "in front" of popular tastes by trying to find songs and stylings that stretched his audience "just enough". He'd try to find what they'd like next, not just what they wanted to hear now, so that the music was always fresh and entertaining.

Many critics consider Glenn Miller to have been the first pop-music superstar. He was by far the most popular musician of the first half of the 20th century. By several measures including market share and number and duration of top-ten hits, even The Beatles and Elvis Presley never matched his popularity.

He had an unusual ability to gauge the public's musical taste, but he also helped form it. Much of his music was just slightly in advance of whatever was current without being so unusual that listeners were put off. In effect he played what the audience would want next as opposed to what they wanted now.

His musical stylings influenced performers into the 1950s and 1960s, including Billy May, Bill Finegan, Eydie Gorme, and others. The Beatles gave credit to his singing group, the Modernaires, as a strong influence on their early work, and even sampled In the Mood at the end of All You Need is Love.

In spite of the fact that the original orchestra hasn't existed for almost three-quarters of a century and most people who heard it in person are no longer alive, there are actually more Glenn Miller fans today than back then. In the age of heavy metal and rock, interest remains so high that Glenn Miller Productions operates three "official" orchestras in the US and the EU, while dozens of other bands around the world regularly perform his music unofficially. A quick search of Amazon.com turns up hundreds of CDs and downloads, quite a tribute to a man whose entire public career lasted less than five years.

His style. He had a distinct style with the saxes and clarinet that was unmistakable. You KNEW it was the Glenn Miller band. And he had many many #1 hit records. His jump tunes were very swingy and very catchy. He had the Modernaires as a vocal group. They had humor and presented it on stage. He had choreographed movements with the horns during live shows. It was a just a very tight nit, well rehearsed band. Glenn Miller was a good song writer and a good arranger and knew what was going to catch the public's ear. They were in movies and performed live all over the country. He knew how to stay in the public eye and his music was great.
