Because those codes were actually laws written in stone
Because the guys didn't have knowledge at those time to know faireness.
It revolved around the concept of 'an eye for an eye'. Essentially, this means that the punishment fit the crime.
So that people would not want to violate that law. It is called deterrence.
The laws were not unusually harsh for the era. They were however consistent.
Hammurabi made a great leader was because he tried to make everything fair to everyone. That is why he made the Code of Hammurabi but not everyone could read. He created the first code for which all citizens had to obey, and he incorperated other cultures and learned from them. He tried to make life fair, though by today's standards it would be considered unfair and harsh.
i think he would be mad of he court system of the united states
The rules of the law were just.
The code of Hammurabi was written around 1754 BC. It was the first codified written set of laws of any length, but there are earlier Sumerian examples. Hammurabi's were printed on a marble pillar and copied for centuries by scribes. An eye for an eye sense of retribution for crime, minimum wage, and the presumption of innocence with the burden of proof on the accuser. One thing that is different from US Law - presumably - is that there was provision for a difference of punishment based on the class of the defendant.
i think it's code
I think Hammurabi was more effective as a ruler because he mademore harsh rules and punishments than just being a military leaderinstructing everyone.
She think that his punishment is too harsh and severe. But she still kind of satisfied.
because he thought if you did a crime you deserved a punishment to make you never even think about doing it again; or if the consequence is death than they wouldn't be able to do it gain.
The kind of money i think Hammurabi paid workers was goods and foods.

Empires
Code of Hammurabi was the first known written law.
Most historians think so.
I think it's the torah =)
I think you are referring to excommunication, a punishment under which people could not receive communion, among other things.
Here is a fair example: If one's roof falls and kills oneself, the builder must also be killed. It's kinda harsh, but it is fair (in my opinion) and it's the best I can think of. If this doesn't help, sorry.
well i think it was all Hammurabi i think he made the punishments in mesopotamia ya
