This is a difficult question to answer, because the reasons for both are so broad! Simply put, however:
Jews - Solomon's Temple was located there with the Ark of the Covenant, as well as substantial Jewish eschatology (doctrine of the end of the world) centering around the area before their ultimate restoration.
Muslims - This is where the Prophet Muhammad ascended into heaven, as well as a necessary location for the Muslim eschatological prophecy of world domination through Jihad.
Christians - Christianity is built off of the B.C. Jewish faith, so there is a lot of similarity between the two in reference to their reverence of the Jerusalem/Holy Land location. In addition to Jewish reason, it is where Jesus Christ, the Messiah, did much of His ministry. Israel, in particular, is important to Christians because it is where almost all of Jesus' ministry and life took place, as well as His ascension from the Mount of Olives.
For Christians, it is the land where Christ Lived, & Jerusalem especially, as it was where He Was Crucified & Risen again.
For Moslems, the Dome of the Rock covers the place where Mohammed ascended to heaven and conversed with the Great Prophets of Islam (Adam, Noah, Moses, and Jesus) before descending back to Earth. This act gave him the most complete revelation of Truth in his life.
The founders of both religions, Mohammed and Jesus respectively, both did important things in the holy land.
Jerusalem
Jerusalem for both Jews and Christians. Either Mecca or Medina for Muslims.
Jerusalem. However, Jerusalem is a sacred city for also both Christians and Muslims.
The city both want ed to control was Jerusalem.
Jerusalem is a Holy city in Judaism, Christianity & Islam.
The Holy Lands are important to both the Christians and Muslims. The crusades began when the Muslims began denying Christians access to the sacred sites.
Answer 1Because it was where Jesus was mostly doing miracles and lived his life.Answer 2The importance of Jerusalem comes primarily from its religious importance to Jews, Christians and Muslims. There is also the political dimension to control of Jerusalem in that this city symbolizes the longevity of both Jewish and Arab historical occupancy of the land.To read about the importance to Jews, Christians, and Muslims, please read the Related Questions below.
The Crusades, which lasted from 1095 to the late 1500's, were holy wars between Christians in the West and Muslims in the Middle East, in which both sides sought to capture Jerusalem, or the Holy Ground. In 1099 the Christians were able to capture Jerusalem, and afterward there were continual holy wars in which the Muslims attempted to recapture the land while the Christians defended it.
For the same reasons as Allah is important to Muslims, and the Christian God to Christians.
There were many wars, sometimes about land disputes or something, but the main wars were the Crusades. The Christians wanted control of the Holy City of Jerusalem, but the Muslims controlled it. Both sides wanted it for religious reasons. The Muslims were fine letting the Christians come to Jerusalem and worship, but the Christians wanted it all to themselves. For over two hundred years the Christians fought with the Muslims over the control of the city.
The Jews. Here is the problem. Christians, Muslims and Jews have fought for control of that city for centuries. The Christians and Muslims actually do not have as bad a history as both against the Jews. The Jews have control of Jerusalem, but the reason is because they need their own country and are not really accepted anyplace else in the world. Not being sympathetic, just stating the facts.
Both Jews and Muslims considered Jerusalem to be a holy city. - Apex
