He had knowledge of the Watergate break in and participated in its cover-up. After appointing a special prosecutor to investigate the case, Nixon refused to cooperate with the proceedings.

On July 27, 1974 the House Judiciary Committee voted 27 to 1 to recommend the first article of impeachment against the president: obstruction of justice.

The second article (abuse of power) was passed on July 29th, 1974 and third article (contempt of Congress) on July 30th, 1974.

Richard Nixon resigned the Presidency August 9th, 1974, before the full House of Representatives could vote on his impeachment. He was not impeached.

Nixon authorised payments of money to the individuals who broke into the Democratic headquarters at the Watergate hotel.

It has often been argued between whether this money was given to 'support their defence' ie pay for their defence and family expenses or whether it was to buy their silence and by proxy obstruct a legal investigation.

out of the 2, there is a case for both, however the Nixon tapes largely, however inconclusively, supports the latter that it was 'hush money'.

This is largely taken from a tape in which Nixon is heard to say 'A million dollars?... I know where that can be got'.

He later retracts this in another recorded conversation, however it is largely believed that was after he was aware of the extend of the investigation and his rather careless remark.

The reality of the situation was that the only thing which stopped Nixon being impeached was his resignation, but his own words 'I impeached myself by resigning'. This and of course the subsequent pardon by Gerard Ford.

He was impeached. Impeachment isn’t the removal of a president, it is just the suspect ion of wrongdoing. Nixon was impeached but he resigned before it could be pursued further
