After years of abuse of power by monarchs, many people were in favor of worker and peasant rights, and viewed the Bolshevik takeover of Russia favorably. Some, who were students of Karl Marx and Friedrich Engels, looked forward to the a time of change when workers would become the rulers, and believed the worker revolution would continue around the world.

He was and is influential because he was the first person to work out in a systematic way how to make a socialist revolution, that is how a revolutionary party should operate and relate to political struggles and how to make them and contribute to them and how to lead them. He also produced a highly-developed theory of Imperialism and made other significant contributions to Marxism. In Russia during 1917, he and the Bolsheviks became influential and won the support of almost the entire Russian working class because the Provisional Government failed to make good on almost all of the Russian workers' demands such as end the war, radical agrarian reform and combat the appaling poverty in Russia. The Bolsheviks were the only ones who did make a serious attempt to improve the lot of the workers and peasants.

∙ 8y agoVladamir Lenin was important to Russian history because he and his Bolshevik followers were the ones who staged the October Revolution of 1917 and overthrew the Provisional Government. Russia was then changed from a capitalist country to a socialist (not communist) country. His actions changed the nature of the country politically and economically.
It's difficult to describe the Russian economy of 1917 as "capitalist". It had an agrarian economy that leaned heavily on the peasantry. The Provisional government had a good number of progressives and socialists.
