Baroque music is different from other styles because it lacks a definite stop. This is why it is called 'Fortspinnung' music, which means 'constantly unfolding.' Everything in a piece leads into the next one and keeps on going. Baroque music also relies on counterpoint, where lines do things independently of one another.

The Baroque music era was the era of some of the world's greatest composers, including Handel, Bach, Purcell, Monteverdi, Cavalli and Rameau. It was written to uplift and glorify the soul, qualities which later became superseded by the Romantic style of music.

Baroque music includes some of the most famous works ever written - notably Handel's Messiah and Purcell's March for the Funeral of Queen Mary, which was used for the theme music of the film 'Clockwork Orange'.

The unique qualities of Baroque music are said to have a particularly powerful ability to combat stress.
