The cold war refers to the period after the Vietnam War up to the dissolution of the Soviet Union. It was not an actual war in the same sense we regard WW2 or Vietnam. The cold war really was a struggle by world superpowers to out-maneuver each other to prove their system of government was better (Capitalism vs. Communism). In the end, Russia's economy collapsed under the weight of its own government. Revolutions staged by certain areas of the USSR-much like the Civil War in the U.S.-split the once mighty soviet union into many smaller sovereign countries. It is regarded as the only war the U.S. ever won without firing a shot.
