These wonders are wonders because there are basically no clues on how these wonder were made. Many people have different theorys on these wonders so that is basically why they are called the Seven Wonders of the World.

Note: There are more wonders people have added but the original are seven.

Each wonder of the world was made for a different reason. For example, the Taj Mahal was a tomb built by Shah Jahan to express his infinite love for his dead wife, Mumtaz Mahal. Though, that is not the same reason that Machu Pichu was built.

The seven wonders were made know to the people of Greece, by Philo of Byzantium and Antipater of Sidon, who were writers, living in the 1st and 2nd centuries BC. They wrote accounts of these seven monolithic structures, which became tourist attractions for the Ancient Greeks.

Of the Seven Wonders Of the World, only one is still intact today. The following is a list of the Seven Wonders.

1. The Great Pyramids of Giza: Built between 2,584 and 2,561 BC, and are still standing

2. The Hanging Gardens of Babylon: Built between 605 and 562 BC, and was destroyed in the first century BC

3. The Statue of Zeus at Olympia: Built in 435 BC, was destroyed between 500 and 600 AD

4. The Temple of Artemis: Build 550 BC, was destroyed in 391 AD

5. The Mausoleum of Halicarnassus: Built 351 BC, was destroyed in 1494 AD

6. The Colossus of Rhodes: Built between 292 and 280 BC, was destroyed in 226 BC

7. The Lighthouse of Alexandria: Built 280 BC, was destroyed between 1300 and 1400 AD
