∙ 11y agoWilliam the Conqueror ruled over TWO countries (England and Normandy)! He found this very difficult, so he had to think of a way to make it easier. He decided to build motte and bailey castles around the country. In each bailey, there were some villagers and a small part of William's army and there was also someone to lead this small group. William spaced them out all over England and one of them was Lincoln castle!
