The Globe Theater was not round but actually a polygon. It has 20 sides to it. The reason for this was so that more people were able to get a good view of the rectangular stage. The original building burned down on June 29, 1613. A replacement was built and closed in 1642.
Greek amphitheatres were very advanced structures that displayed [ transmitted ] sound wonderfully. They were shaped like a semi-circle because that shape would allow great sound and everyone in the large audiences to see the productions on stage.
Theaters in Ancient Greece were open to the air. They were often built on hillside with the slope being a place for terraced seating so everyone present could see. This was known as the theatron. Before this was an open space where the chorus could perform known as the orchestra. Behind that was the skene, or stage, where the actors performed.
