Carthage was besieged, starved out and surrendered. Rome sold the population into slavery as a final solution against a resilient Carthage. The city was then converted into a settlement for retired Roman veterans.
The Second Punic War fought between the Roman and Carthaginian Empires was fought between 218 BC and 202 BC and ultimately ended in a decisive victory for the Roman Empire and grants them dominance over the Western Mediterranean.
The Romans fought the Third Punic War with the aim of destroying Carthage. They besieged the city for three years and then broke through. The city was raised to the ground and 50,000 Carthaginians who survived were sold into slavery. They took over Carthage's remaining territories, Tunisia and western Libya.
Carthage was built as a Roman town 130 years later and became the second largest city in the western part of the Roman Empire and probably the 4th or 5th in the whole empire.
The Punic Wars are three wars between Rome and Carthage. The second Punic War ended in 202 BC. Rome won this war.
