Cuban Revolution (1959)
Goal:To get rid of the dictator, Fulgencio Batista, and his corrupt government and establish a government for the people.
Causes: Corrupt government and ties to organized crime, abused human rights, oppression of Cubans etc.
What happened was that Fidel Castro took over the government, declared Cuba a communist nation, murdered those that opposed him, ruled Cuba as a tyrant for almost 50 years, and generally made life a living hell for those that remained in Cuba.
A Corrupt crook backed up by the US Government and organised crime in the United states was thrown out by group with socialist aspiration's. The result was that this kind of policy was directly opposed to the powers that be in the United states. Having a successful socialist country so close to the border of the USA frightened it so it was just not on. So in the interest of peace, justice and the American way embargo's were put on Cuba that forced them into the soviet fold. The effect was that dirty politics by the US backed Cuba into a corner that they are still trying to extricate themselves from.
The first, because the Cuban people wanted independence from Spain.
The second, because the people were tired of the corruption in Batista's government.
