Apart from a brief period of monotheism during the reign of Pharaoh Akhenaten, who ruled Egypt between 1353 and 1336 BCE, the ancient Egyptians were consistently polytheistic, as was almost every other culture in the ancient Near East. Only the Zoroastrian religion of the Iranian region was monotheistic until monotheism was adopted in Judah during the seventh century BCE.

In ancient times, the Egyptians had a polytheistic religion because they believed that the environment, plants, animals, the sun, had something that made them living. It provided things for them and I know they were seeking a god that created all of it but they just didn't know it was just one God. The ancient Egyptians' polytheistic beliefs were probably sparked by the many aspects of the one true God. They probably just divided the real God up into many gods that can do separate things. If you are interested in learning more, the Christian Bible tells you a lot about the one true God
