The concentration camps were made by Nazis. The Nazi party came together by Hitler. Hitler blamed Jews for being in nationalists and for economical problems during Germany's depression. Concentration camps were made to punish Jews (and others) for no good reason..

The primary objective of the camps was to kill all Jews. Rather than just execute the Jews immediately, which would have brought about more resistance, the camps were created to pretend that Jews were merely being held in detention but would eventually be released. It is interesting, in this regard, that the entrance arch to the infamous Auschwitz camp bore the motto "Arbeit macht frei" meaning work makes you free. The implication being that Jews would have to work for it, but would wind up being freed. The reality was that they would suffer starvation, degradation of every description, and sooner or later be killed, for the crime of being Jewish. Dictatorship works with two basic tools: violence and lies. The camps used both.

The camps, originally called "reservations" were set up to isolate the Jewish people and several other groups such as Gypsies, homosexuals, and Jehovah's Witnesses. Hitler espoused even before coming to power, the importance of identifying a common enemy to bring the nation together. He did this by making it easier to identify the common enemy, placing them into ghettos and camps.
