The first was the overthrow of the Monarchy in 1917, also known as the February Revolution. This deposed Tzar Nicholas II, but nobody really figured out who should run the country. So, there was a period of dual power, in which the in which the Provisional Government held state power and the national network of Soviets, led by socialists, had the allegiance of the lower-classes and the political left.

The second revolution, known as the October Revolution was when the Bolshevik party, led by Vladimir Lenin, and the workers' Soviets, overthrew the Provisional Government and brought about a massive change in the social structure of Russia, as well as paving the way for the USSR. The first was the February revolution in 1917, in which the Tsar abdicated and the Provisional Government took control. The second was the October Revolution, in the same year, at which the Bolshevik party led by Lenin overthrew the Provisional Government and set Communism. In 1922 they created the USSR.
