The reason why he is doing that is because he DOES like you. If guys like you, they will do anything for your attention. Even assuming things. He might think that if he assumes things, he apparently knows a lot about you. (or so he thinks.) If he thinks that you are impressed by his vast knowledge about you, he thinks that you will like him more. Hope this helps.
