Some people don't fear death to the degree of willing to put up with the pain, or indignity or the stress that their last time on earth has in store for themselves or others. Modern medicine has brought about a situation where aside from longer lives people can also be put in a position where they have longer deaths. many people want to have a choice in whether they do away with the longer or painful or stressful death by simply ending it.

∙ 13y agoEuthanasia comes from words meaning "good death". The basic concept is that if someone has an incurable and fatal disease which may nevertheless require a prolonged period of suffering before they finally die, it may be kinder to allow them to die quickly and painlessly.
We commonly do this with animals in similar situations. Issues of legality and religion enter into it if a person is involved, though.
As to why someone would "pick" it: faced with the choice of a relatively painless death now, or weeks (or longer) of agony after which they will die anyway and may run up huge medical bills for their loved ones in the process, some people would prefer the former.

For people who want to do euthanasia, here are the reasons: Euthanasia is assisted suicide. It is illegal and is not a common practice. I would imagine that those that do participate do it to end the suffering of a painful disease.
