As a Texan who plans on moving to the Northeast after i graduate college, here is why I love it: (While there are different interpretations of the "Northeast," for this answer I am referring to the "Northeast Corridor" or the area along the Atlantic Seaboard that stretches from Washington, DC to Boston.

1. Northeastern cities tend to have a more urban aesthetic core than cities in many other parts of the country such as Texas, the Southeast, the Southwest, etc.
2. Visiting the cities along the northeast corridor (DC, Baltimore, Philadelphia, New York City, Boston) is like walking in the footsteps of U.S. history.
3. The cities in the Northeast, along with Chicago, have some of the best mass transit systems in the nation. These are the majority of the very few cities in the nation where it is possible to live without a car because of their walkability and mass transit.
4. Jobs in the northeast tend to pay more than jobs in most other parts of the country.
5. Many of the best universities in the country are located in the northeast.
6. While I like Texas weather, I actually prefer the change of seasons that are experienced in the northeast, including the cold and snow.
7. The proximity of so many large and vibrant cities to one another enables me to experience everything the region has to offer. The Acela Express is the only high speed rail line in the nation and makes traveling in the region very convenient, especially because you don't have to have a car to get everywhere.
8. Each city has a very distinct local culture, as opposed to some other parts of the country where all the cities look, sound, feel, smell, etc, the same.
9. If the northeast were its own nation, it would have one of the world's largest GDP's, and would be the 24th largest by population.
10. New York City, Washington DC, Boston, and Philadelphia are all ranked as "World Cities," due to each of their substantial global economic and cultural influence. While Baltimore is classified as a "developing" World City--largely due to its renowned healthcare industry (Johns Hopkins Hospital is universally regarded as one of the greatest hospitals in the world, as are several other hospitals in the northeast). New York City is considered one of three "command centers for the world economy" along with London and Tokyo.

These are just a few of the reasons I can think of off the top of my head, but I'm sure others can definitely add numerous other characteristics that are attractive about the northeast. I hope that I didn't come across as saying that the northeast is the good and all other regions are bad because that was not my intention. Every region of the country has its own features that I believe make it an attractive place to live, but the northeast is the one that most appeals to my preferences.
