If the refrigerant is not at an optimal level (either too low or too high), the system will have to work harder to produce the same amount of cooling. This results in more electricity being used to get the same amount of cooling.

Does raising the power factor of a residence result in dollar savings on your electric bill?

No. Your energy meter monitors the supply voltage and the in-phase component of the load current, so improving your power factor will have no effect on your energy consumption and, therefore, your electricity bill.

What are the advantages of ammeter?

A wattmeter is an instrument that measures the electric power of a circuit, in watts. A watt meter is installed in almost every house, and is used to determine a family's monthly electric bill.

What is the average monthly electric bill for a business utilizing about 80-100 computer workstations?

You first must determine what wattage each computer consumes. You then need to figure out what your electrical rate is ... the charge per kilowatt hour.

How much power is in a 120V line?

Most 120 Volt appliances have their Watts listed somewhere on the appliance. Divide this number by 1,000 to get kilowatts. Determine the rate you are charged for electric power. Your electric bill will tell you how many kWh(kilowatt hours) you use, and what the total charge is. Divide your total charge ($?) by the kWh used. In northern Illinois, we are charged about $0.11 per kWh. Multiply the number of hours the appliance is used by its power consumption in kilowatts. This gives you the number of kWh the appliance used. Then multiply that kWh value by the rate for your area that you determined from your electric bill. That will be the cost for the number of hours the appliance was on. Example: If I toast 2 slices of bread in my toaster, it takes about 3 minutes, or 0.05 hours. My electric bill is $61.38 and I used 558 kwh for that month. Dividing $61.38 by 558, I get about $0.11 per kWh. So, I divide my toaster Wattage (750) by 1,000 to get 0.75 kW. So now I can multiply the hours that the appliance was used (0.05) by its power consumption rate in kW (0.75). This result is 0.0375 kWh of energy used. Then I can multiply the rate the electric company charges ($0.11) by the energy used (0.0375 kWh). The final result is $0.004125.

What is the purpose of power factor testing?

I recently purchased a Power Mizer Capacitor Device from a company which they claim will cut my electric bill by at least 30 %.My electrician tells me that may be true if you use a power factor meter. My local electric provider only have and only use killowatt meters to determine my electric bill. Frankly, I would think that the company who was promoting and marketing their product in my geographical area would know the operating practices of the electrical provider serving my home territory and not sell something that has no chance of actually working, if, that is the case.My question is who is right , my electrician or the UMA ?Will I see any reduction whatsoever in my electric bill or did I simply spend $995 on something frivolous and need to take action to recover my expenditures.I appreciate your taking the time to enlighten me. Thank you.Jack HeintzelmanIn response... I assume that you are a not a commercial or industrial user? If this is the case, then your utility only bills you on the amount of energy you purchase using their kilowatt-hour meter at the origin of the supply to your premises. It does this by multiplying the in-phase component of your load current by the supply voltage and the period of time involved. Any device that acts to change the power factor of your load will have no effect on your energy bill. Power factor improvement only applies to industrial or commercial consumers.
