Most likely he will. If he's not able to come back with a good enough answer or reaction on the spot, he will most likely try to do it afterwards in a way or another. One way might be spreading rumors or lies about you behind your back.

He will absolutely spread rumors or lies about you behind your back whether you have ridiculed him in public or not. Anything he/she perceives to create narcissistic injury is fair game for retaliation.

Yes They won't wait for you to offend them. They will INVENT offenses that never even entered your mind so that they can exercise their greatest creativity. There is nothing like a narcissist out for revenge--and they won't sit and wait for an opportunity. They will make their own occasions to take offense just so that they can be creative with their vindictiveness. In the beginning, you might think that if you just make it right "this time," then everything will be OK. There might be a brief honeymoon period, but please understand this: it never will be OK. The truth is that you will turn yourself inside out--maybe for years--to avoid offending him, but that won't stop him from being offended, because it's one of the best ways to control you. I broke up with my N. a few months ago. He tried calling me "just for sex" but I kept turning him down. A few weeks ago, he texted me that he had to put his dog down and he was devastated. He was acting "normal" so a few days later I texted to check up on him which he then rubbed in my face he has a new gf who he's in love with and she;s better then I am and ever could be. Needless to say, I'm taking it pretty hard. My friends and therapist try to calm me down by telling me he couldn't handle that I left him (after about 10 years of him having complete control over me) and this was his only resort.

They can be so full of themselves and preoccupied with working on new supply they are optimistic about and you mean so little as an individual they can forget about whatever it was they would have been upset about. Narcissist won't try to avenge those recognised as having more power than themselves even if desiring to do so.

Otherwise the Narcissist is ballistic ally vengeful towards those he can hurt, paying back a hundred fold real, perceived and imagined slights. Some revenge comes even long after some event as over time the Narcissist has spent ages stewing on something, magnifying and distorting his basis for a grudge.

A great deal of any Narcissists' reactions defy logic in understanding their responses to be on the safe side presume the worst case scenarios and be ready for that.
