I could not find anything that was helpful. I ended up reinstalling adobe reader 7.09, despite the warning of incompatibility issues with Vista. (I had saved an old copy of 7.09)

I went to Programs and Features in Vista Control Panel and deleted Adobe Reader 9. Then I rebooted and went to adobe.com and installed the 9.1 version. Now, I can print my documents.
