It would actually be : 1 tile for each square foot, since you have a kitchen that is 12' by 14' you do have a total area of 168 feet. you would actually be subtracting 8 square feet considering that you have an area of 2 foot by 4 foot which will not be being tiled (which is 8 sq. ft.). That would make it 160 square feet that you are needing to tile. 1 tile for each square foot also makes 160 tiles. So 160 would be the correct answer. :)
