If that's what happened, sorry, it doesn't sound good for you. Because of the amount of the theft you could be charged with a felony crime (Grand Larceny or Embezzlement) which would stay with you the rest of your life. If you are arrested and charged you will need the services of a private attorney or public defender. If the store gives you the opportunity to pay it back, my advice would be to jump at it.
