A letter of complaint
First make sure your perception was not wrong. Somebody's livelihood may depend on it. Letters to the management may get "lost " or ignored. If this happens again , ask to see their supervisor immediately. Tell them what happened , and they are in grave danger of losing your business if that employee is not retrained or cautioned . Customer service can be very touchy, and maybe the customer before you was rude to the clerk and the clerk took it out on you. You certainly do NOT have to tolerate this, but consider the ramifications of a vehement complaint. If you are intent on the letter , perhaps you would be kind enough to refuse to name the clerk and just suggest that ALL the employees may need an inservice class in customer courtesy. The offending party will KNOW he or she is responsible for this, and may be motivated to behave more civilly in the future.
