I have the exact same problem with my '96 200SX SE-R. It's a manual and while driving I'll put it in neutral to slow down for a turn or red light and my car will fall to 200-300 RPMs and fight to get back to the normal 800 RPMs. Sometime it isn't able to fight back and will just die. I've talked to many mechanics, none know the answer. Just lask week once mechanice suggested to clean out my whole intake system, the problem still exists. Not enough time driving to say if it has helped or not. Will return to see what other suggestions he might have.
Another Take: Make sure you can see the "OD OFF" lit up on your dash. My 95' 200sx has stalled at reds on the few occasions when I have left this on. At the moment it wont even shift. I have to move to Neutral and then back into Drive and it. Sigh.

Guess: Best Guess is defrost or AC are on and the engine is having trouble running the compressor. This is common on these cars when they have another fault with the way they run. Second best guess, The engine has a run problem, and the extra load causes it to be worse.
