Could be tensioners cracking, or one maybe loose. Better do more research and get someones head under the hood!
It's most likely the hydraulic lifters. Over time the oil leaves deposits on lifter surfaces and it make them gummy. Sinthetic, mineral and additive oils will all do it. Short runs don't help either. Warm the oil, drain it, fill with flushing oil. Run it as per the flushing oil instructions, drain it, change the oil filter, refill with a quality oil that won't emulsify on short runs, and change it at regular intervals. The loud tapping sound can be caused by a complete heating of the engine. Worn tappets can also cause the tapping sound.
the first lifter facing on the letf makes a tapping sound sometimes
A hog sometimes makes a snorting sound, and sometimes makes a squealing sound.
A tapping noise might come into the engine because of heat damage to the lifters of the motor. You might also hear a tapping sound if the engine has been damaged due to a blown head gasket.
bad wheel bearing.
Woodpecker taps on trees and makes noise.
The noise has been coming from the engine for the past week and I have been told it might be the oil pump not providing oil to the sump. The tapping sound comes from the engine and increases when i change into a higher gear and drive faster. Please help!
