Automatic transmission- check the fluid level. Level okay? Then you have a serious problem. Manual Transmission- You've burned out the clutch. Replace the clutch disk.

No! It should not move. Your Explorer has a winch and cable system to secure your tire. If your tire will not tighten up, your cable may be knotted up. Pull the tire back down to the ground and retighten.
The " park " position is not a drive gear , you select the " park " position when you don't want the vehicle to move , and it also allows you to remove the ignition key

In a rack & pinion, instead of gears in a box there are hydraulics that move tie rods connected to the wheels
