Well, there are a couple of possibilities here. The coolant reservoir is right over that wheel, at least on my older model. Either the car was running hot and the reservoir overflowed, or the reservoir is leaking badly. In either case, you have an overheating problem. Your water pump may be failing or a hose may be leaking or collapsed. Check all the hoses and their connections for leaks. Make sure the hoses aren't collapsed or pinched.
If you start the car and bring it up to running temp. (no higher) and then shut it off, the pressure in the system should increase. Often, the increased pressure will show you where the leak is. If you find nothing out of the ordinary, I would suspect the water pump. Look at it for leaks, and if you can get at it, try wiggling the pulley in and out and back and forth. There should be very little or no play in that pulley. If there is, it's a sign of pump failure.
I highly suggest not driving the car until you can find and fix this problem. Driving it hot can do all kinds of serious damage.
Antifreeze could be running out often due to a leak. It is important to inspect the radiator for small cracks or smoke.
It is possible that the antifreeze is coming from a bad water pump. Clean the engine off. Watch it to see where the antifreeze is leaking from, as it could be a hose instead of the pump.
Thermostat sticking. Replace thermostat and gasket.
i'd have to say the person who left the car running. if they didnt leave it running they could have prevented the thief from smashing it into your car.
Check the engine while it is running. it may be that the water pump has failed. Also check to see if the floor is wet on the passenger side, Theres a chance it could be the heater core.
I had a 2000 Lincoln LS and the Antifreeze Reservoir had a rash of heat induced cracks on the side facing the Firewall. The antifreeze would ooze and evaporate without leaving a puddle but a whiff of the smell could be noticed on some occasions. My 2005 LS has some of the same cracks but has not started to leak or ooze antifreeze. Also on my 2005 LS there was an upper hose leak but only with 16 psi or more of pressure.
It could be known as a puddle, or a pool of rain water.
No it won't hurt the engine BUT you could get carbon monoxide in the car. Don't sit in a parked car with the engine running if your exhaust is bad - it could kill you.
Your intake is probably cracked. I had the same problem as well as others on a 98 LeSabre. I could smell the antifreeze and the fluid leaked down.
It could possibly be the timing belt. Chevrolet recommends replacing it every 60,000 miles.
it could be a number of things ..running hot .. Thermos stat .. fans not working...leaking antifreeze etc...
i was told its because they are for when you are parked only, and if you drive with them on someone could mistake that you're parked and hit you.
